This Christmas, we’re supporting our local food bank!

Christmas can be a really exciting, happy and warm time of year. Enjoying the good company of friends and family, traditional or non-traditional Christmas dinners, crackers with flimsy paper hats and cheesy jokes that make everyone groan or giggle, and general joy and laughter. But Christmas can also be a really hard time of year, and for many people it can be a lonely and difficult time full of stress and struggle.

With a dramatic increase in poverty in Britain, we’ve also seen a dramatic increase in the existence and use of food banks. Food banks provide practical short-term support to people in crisis, providing basic essentials many of us take for granted to people that simply cannot afford to get these things without help. This includes food items, toiletries, bedding and other household items. Food banks also provide support and advice to people in their local area, helping people to find meaningful employment, and supporting them as they try to improve their situation.

We think that food banks do vital and noble work, and this year, in lieu of sharing Christmas presents and cards, we’ve decided to make a donation to The Welcome Centre, a local food bank in Huddersfield.

How will we do this?

We will be doing a big food shop for the food bank, taking in food, household and toiletry items that respond to their current shortages, and dropping this off before Christmas.

We know that we’re really lucky, so it feels good to be able to do something meaningful like this, particularly around this time of year. So, if you would like to join us, please feel free to pitch in. You can do this in a number of ways:

  • Make a cash donation that we can put together with our own
  • Take a look at The Welcome Centre’s current shortage list and drop in a tin or two at our Cleckheaton office
  • Contact The Welcome Centre directly, if you wish to do your own thing
  • Take a look for local food banks in your area and get in touch with them to see what they need

We hope that you all, whatever your plans are for the festive period, have a wonderful Christmas, and an amazing 2019.
