Case Study – Murray Amesbury

a surprise redundancy in 2019, I found myself on the hunt for a job with the pressure of time and a lack of income to pay the bills. After months of searching and interviewing (and coming very close), I was still no nearer to landing a suitable role. I kept receiving the feedback of ‘you’re too experienced for this role’, or alternatively ‘you don’t have the specific experience we are looking for…’. It was demoralising.

Following a surprise redundancy in 2019, I found myself on the hunt for a job with the pressure of time and a lack of income to pay the bills. After months of searching and interviewing (and coming very close), I was still no nearer to landing a suitable role. I kept receiving the feedback of ‘you’re too experienced for this role’, or alternatively ‘you don’t have the specific experience we are looking for…’. It was demoralising.

To have a fighting chance, my wife and I moved out of a rented house, put everything into storage, I sold my car, and we moved into my parents’ house. I decided I needed to take a different and more urgent approach to job hunting, so decided to sign up to a few local recruitment agencies. I had some questionable experiences being signed with some agencies, who treated me simply as a number on the books. I felt quite deflated.

However, as soon as I walked into The Agency in Cleckheaton, I knew this was not your typical recruitment agency. I was met with professionalism, courtesy and kindness from the moment I walked through the door. I was initially met by Jo, who spent a long time with me asking all about my past work experience, what I would like to do, salary expectations, and so on. After registering all my details Jo asked if I would return to meet specifically with their MD, Kim. I agreed and left their office feeling like there was some future hope.

Upon meeting Kim, it was just as before – professionalism, kind and caring approach, great attention to detail, with an ability to make me feel at ease immediately. Kim reviewed all my details and straight away matched me to a future vacancy working as an Export Administrator in Solenis, Bradford. A few weeks later, an interview was arranged at Solenis which I had been fully prepped for, and I was immediately offered the job on a temporary contract! Although I had not done this specific type of work before, I had enough experience to pick up the systems and settled in quickly.

After a few months, the managers within Solenis asked if I would like to get involved within some projects. It sounded very interesting, and I wanted to learn more. Since the start, Kim, Jo and the team kept in touch with me every week to check I was alright and find out how things were progressing, if I needed any support. It’s a great touch, that most other agencies simply do not do. In addition, prior to the pandemic, The Agency would have regular site visits with both my employer and all temp workers, to ensure all were happy and supported.

I liked the people and the Solenis company itself, so decided to try and progress my career as far as possible. A short time later I was moved into the OPEX (Operational Excellence) team to support on-going projects, eventually being made into a Project Leader in 2020, while being supplied by The Agency. In December 2021, I was taken on permanently by Solenis as a Project Manager for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Supply Chain.

I can honestly say without The Agency’s help I would not have found the career I am in now and will be forever grateful to them. I cannot recommend The Agency highly enough to any individuals looking for work, or to companies looking for a reputable recruitment agency to partner with for their temporary and/or permanent workforce supply.
