In conjunction with HR consultants Red Elephant HR and employment lawyers, CLR Law: earlier this week THE Agency ran a complimentary breakfast briefing in Cleckheaton for local employers on how they can cope with the forthcoming Agency Workers Regulations 2010 (AWR) which come into force on the 1st October 2011.
Attendees included HR Directors, Recruitment Managers and other HR professionals from a range of local, West Yorkshire based employers.

THE Agency’s Managing Director Kim Barnes-Evans, said of the event afterwards;
With the impending enforcement of the Regulations next month we were keen to provide a practical message for our clients and other local employers, that was less about the high level principles of the regulations and more about the reality of what needs to be done on a day-to-day basis when it comes to the impact of these regulations on their businesses.
During the presentation many questions were asked which centered around the operational solutions and effective planning that is required of employers after the 1st October.
Wednesday’s joint presentation was made by HR consultant Joanne Vose of Red Elephant HR and employment solicitor Claire Rolston of employment law firm CLR Law, in a delivery style that helped promote a very interactive session from everyone that attended.
Joanne Vose commented afterwards;
Normally in a legislative presentation such as this we would have used some real-life case studies to illustrate examples of the legislation in action. However, as this is brand new legislation, obviously we couldn’t have done that so instead we used some hypothetical situations for the exercises. It seemed to work well and feedback afterwards indicated that everyone benefited from the session.

It was encouraging to hear from the attendees how much they already knew about the Agency Workers Regulations and the steps they have taken in preparation for 1 October. The majority of questions were around the types of benefits that may attract equality under the legislation and also anti-avoidance provisions.
The audience participated well and really got involved with the case studies, which allowed them to share their own experiences of using temporary workers and allowed myself and Joanne to learn more about how the legislation will affect companies in practice.
All in all a good event.
